Grooming Schedule

How Often Should My Dog Be Groomed?

Freshly groomed dog

Most dogs do best on a consistent grooming schedule, but the right timing depends on coat type, activity level, skin needs, and how much maintenance happens at home.

Every 4 to 6 weeks

Dogs with haircuts, curly coats, doodle-style coats, or coats that mat easily often benefit from a four-to-six-week schedule. This keeps the coat manageable and helps prevent tight tangles from becoming uncomfortable.

Every 6 to 8 weeks

Many dogs with moderate coat maintenance needs can stay comfortable with appointments every six to eight weeks, especially when brushing is consistent between visits.

Seasonal or as-needed grooming

Short-coated dogs may not need haircuts, but they still benefit from baths, nail trims, ear care, and de-shedding when needed.

If you are unsure, Shellie’s can recommend a schedule based on your dog’s coat, comfort, and styling goals.
